As of April 2009 these pages are a work in progress. My intent is to create an identification system similiar to what I've been working on for wildflowers.

    I've found one other, rather good site that has an identification system. I did not find all of its possibilities to be obvious, but as I worked with it more I became more impressed with its abilities. The one feature I felt that it lacks is images. The site uses illustrations, whereas I've found that by linking to CalPhotos I'm able to see important variations between individuals plants or birds within a single species. WhatBird.com - Indentification System

    At the moment what I have is a good way to look at lots of bird pictures. The link below will take you to a page with a list of the scientific orders and families of birds. On that page each family name is a link to a page listing all of the genera within the family. For the families which I have finished you can use the links to either look at photos (in CalPhotos) of all of the species within the family or within a genus. There is also a link which will take you to a list of the species within each genus and each species is then linked to all of the photos of that species in CalPhotos. LOTS OF BIRD PICTURES TO LOOK AT !!!

    As I work on these pages I'm enjoying seeing the great variety. I hope others will enjoy my efforts as well.
